Getting To Know Us
TACC team member highlights
Lena Duplechin Seymour
Collaborative Support Specialist
Life Sciences
Lena’s goal is to help scientists optimize their research when utilizing TACC systems. She provides valuable insight to determine which resources will best support their research goals.
Lena has contributed to EpiENGAGE’s pandemic simulator, guiding public health officials as they plan for potential epidemics. She also works alongside the JetStream2 team assisting with training and user support.
“Every day is something new and my colleagues (TACC staff and users alike) are ready to help tackle it together to further scientific inquiry.”
In her free time, Lena enjoys exploring with her dog, Sergeant Pepper. She loves museums, reading, and historical crafting.
Edgar Garza
Senior Training Coordinator
Education & Outreach
Edgar is responsible for curriculum development and program implementation for TACC’s Education and Outreach K-20 events.
While collaborating with an HBCU (historically black college and university) and a cyberinfrastructure consortium, Edgar created a role-playing game to help develop skills in cybersecurity defense strategies, teamwork, and critical thinking.
“My favorite part about working at TACC is the opportunity to make an impact in the lives of high school and college students.”
When he’s not sharing his expertise with students, Edgar loves building Lego sets. His last Lego accomplishment was building the Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter.
Arleen Umbay
Executive Assistant
Center Operations and Admin
Arleen’s role as Executive Assistant extends far beyond the executive office. She handles travel arrangements, reimbursements, and scheduling, but she is also the resident community builder.
Due to her efforts, TACC received a mini-grant to set up a fitness room following the pandemic. Staff members now have access to foam rollers, weights, mini elliptical machines, and a treadmill when they need a stretch break or a metabolic boost.
“My favorite thing about working at TACC is being near science research that makes the world a better place.”
Outside of the office, Arleen is learning to play the ukulele. She is passionate about efforts to save coral reefs and helping teachers.
